OBDII REPLACEMENT PROCEDURES

STEP ONE
- Check engine diagnostic codes before replacing any OBDII catalytic converter. The "Check Engine Light" may indicate a failure other than the catalytic converter. Be sure to check these codes even if the catalytic converter is obviously damaged because there may be additional emission components that need to be replaced. If Engine Diagnostic Codes indicate a catalytic converter failure, continue to Step Two.

STEP TWO
-Check OBDII Policy conditions for your region to determine if the vehicle meets the requirements for acceptable use of an aftermarket catalytic converter.

STEP THREE
-Choose a replacement catalytic converter based on engine displacement and vehicle test weight from the individual series coverage charts.

STEP FOUR
-Replace failed OEM OBDII converter with the replacement aftermarket converter in the same location as the OEM converter. If possible, re-use OEM oxygen sensor boss. If oxygen sensor boss is damaged or must be replaced, use an OBDII Coupling and place it in the same location as the OEM oxygen sensor boss.

Most OEM OBDII systems have the oxygen sensors positioned on the exhaust pipe either in front of or behind a converter. In limited applications, the OEM oxygen sensor may be positioned on the converter body between the internal ceramic catalysts. In this situation, treat the OEM as two separate converters, one in front of the sensor and one behind the sensor. Position OBDII Coupling and oxygen sensor in the same location as the OEM sensor.

STEP FIVE
-Complete warranty card information and insist that customer take the vehicle back to have the emission repairs completed and to clear the Engine Diagnostic Codes. The cause of the catalytic converter failure must be fixed or the replacement converter is likely to fail.
